Preparing for a move, relocation, or reorganization involving a self storage can be some of the most stressful events one can engage in. Not only can it be physically taxing but mentally as well. The best orchestrated and successful moving processes are usually those that are planned well in advance and require plenty of help and input. Even the best organizers and time management gurus will admit that even the best laid plans can be derailed but if you spend enough time in utilizing our suggested to-do list, it can reduce and eliminate some of the usual stress that comes with making your big move. Below, we have prepared a list of do’s and don’ts from our expert staff: DO’S: Use pallets, 2’x4”s, plywood to elevate your storage contents off the direct floor. Utilize all the space in your unit. Floor and shelf plan-o-grams allow you to arrange your items in an organized fashion. Leave an aisle in the center of your unit to walk from front to back. Speaking of shelves, utilize freestanding ones to help organize stackable items. Label your boxes on all six sides and keep a list for easy reference. Be sure to store frequently used items at the front of your unit. Protect your items by covering them with moving pads, sheets or cloth covers. Check on your unit at least once per month or as frequently as you can thereafter. Disassemble items such as tables, bed frames, etc. to save space. Wrap and label all pieces for an easier time when you will reassemble. Disassemble electronics by placing cords in like color twist ties by each individual electronic Make sure all appliances are clean and dry before storing and leave airflow space around each If possible, store couches on end, stack chairs, stack furniture using paper pads or blankets.
